Mbai Bassa Community and ISRUN Announce Strategic Partnership to Empower Underserved Students in Cameroon through Scholarship and Mentorship
GILROY, CA – Mbai Bassa Community (MBC), a California-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and Institut Supérieur Ruben Um Nyobe (ISRUN), a leading higher education institution in Cameroon, have formalized a three-year partnership to launch a comprehensive Scholarship and Mentorship program. This collaboration, signed on April 22, 2026, aims to empower students in rural and underserved communities by providing the financial and professional scaffolding needed for long-term success.
The partnership builds upon ISRUN’s proven track record of academic rigor. Despite serving historically underserved regions, ISRUN has consistently demonstrated exceptional results, recently achieving a success rate of over 80% in the national BTS (Brevet de Technicien Supérieur) Exam. By partnering with such a high-performing institution, the MBC Pathways to Self-Reliance Program aims to turn these academic achievements into sustainable career paths.
THE MENTORSHIP ADVANTAGE
While financial aid addresses immediate barriers, the mentorship component of this MoU is designed to foster professional identity and leadership. Students will be paired with seasoned mentors to navigate the transition from the classroom to the marketplace, ensuring that academic excellence translates into financial independence.
“Our goal is to provide more than just a tuition check. Through structured mentorship, we are transferring social capital and professional expertise to students who have the talent but lack the traditional networks to succeed,” noted Alain Nonga Ngue, President of MBC.
The program’s objectives remain focused on promoting academic excellence, supporting financially disadvantaged students, and fostering community engagement. Under the three-year agreement, which includes options for extension, students will gain access to specialized training to spark entrepreneurship and economic self-sufficiency.
