Mbai Bassa Community is a California-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded in May 2020 by Cameroonian diaspora members and their friends. The organization aims to facilitate integration in the USA, celebrate African heritage, and support education, clean water, healthcare, and economic development for the Grand Sanaga region of Cameroon.
Membership is open to anyone committed to advancing the group’s mission, regardless of origin or residence.
The founders believe in giving back to the communities that supported their educational success, leveraging opportunities in their new home, and building a strong community in the USA to aid those in Cameroon. They value collaboration, perseverance, and cultural education as keys to achieving ambitious goals and fostering positive relationships.
The Grand Sanaga region, including Sanaga-Maritime, Nyong et Nkelle, and Nkam divisions, is home to the Basa’a Nge—Bassa, Bati, Mpo’o, and other Bantu groups. Their ancestry traces to the Nile Valley, with current populations around 250,000 in Cameroon.
Basa’a Nge are recognized for rich traditions. The legend of Ngog Lituba (“Pierced Stone”) symbolizes their survival and identity, with descendants referring to themselves as Mbog Liaa, or “People from the Pierced Stone.”
Members of our Bisai clubs are the backbone of our organization. They are committed to making our vision becomes a reality. They commit to a minimum level of financial contributions per year and participate to various activities to advance our causes on an ongoing basis.
